The Alzheimer Society of Belleville-Hastings-Quinte was
founded by a group of family caregivers in 1984 under the leadership of Joy
Dixon and Jean Spratley. It is a non-profit corporation and registered charity,
governed by a volunteer board of directors who are elected by the membership at
the annual general meeting held in May of each year.
The Chapter receives funding
from the South East Local Health Integration Network, but relies upon
donations and
volunteer support. Except
for an amount budgeted for research, all of the money raised by our fundraising
events stays within our local Chapter.
The Alzheimer Society of Belleville-Hastings-Quinte,
through its affiliation with the Alzheimer Society of Ontario, Alzheimer
Society of Canada and Alzheimer's Disease International, plays an active
role in the development of the Alzheimer movement throughout the world.
